Berkshire Wedding at The Mount

The Mount – Edith Wharton’s Estate

The wedding I’m sharing with you today is one that has been in the making for years. Megan and Rob were high school sweethearts! How romantic is that? I’ll let Megan tell you how they went from neighbors to walking down the aisle at The Mount:

“Rob and I were both raised in Worcester, MA. Despite growing up down the street from one another we didn’t meet until we were 16 at a mutual friend’s basketball game! Rob moved out to LA after high school and is currently working as a producer. He has worked on the television shows Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men, and American Hoggers just to name a few.  I moved out here about 4 years ago to be closer to him and am currently working at the Los Angeles Film School.

We got engaged right before Christmas 2011. It was our first Christmas alone in LA (we couldn’t go back East because of work) and I was super depressed to be away from our families. When I got home from work Rob told me that he got a new ornament for our Christmas tree and asked if I could find it. I couldn’t…. So he came over to the tree and pulled a ring off one of the branches. I literally started laughing and said “Yah….OK!” I completely thought it was a joke. I only realized he was serious when his face dropped and he was like “no.. Meg..seriously…will you marry me?” I was so shocked! Obviously I said yes!”

Holiday proposals are so sweet! Keep scrolling to read more of Megan’s insights on the big day and take in some super glamorous shots from Eric Limon Photography.

What made getting married at The Mount a special or unique experience?

“I always knew that I wanted to get married at a big, old estate. My Mother grew up in the Berkshires and I spent a lot of time there growing up. The Mount was one of the first places we went to and when we saw it we just knew it was the perfect place for us to have our wedding. The location was perfect, the house amazing and the history of it being Edith Wharton’s house just sealed the deal for us.

Although The Mount is a national historic landmark I never felt like my day was restricted – or that I wasn’t allowed to make my wedding day my own. Everyone at the Mount made us feel like the home was literally mine and Rob’s for that day. They were open to my ideas and willing to work with me to make my day special. I must say that getting dressed with my bridesmaids in Edith Wharton’s bedroom was a bit surreal!

I also felt so fortunate that we were able to take advantage of both indoor and outdoor settings. Being the indecisive bride that I was this was amazing for me! We had our ceremony in the flower garden and our cocktail hour in the Italian garden. Then we moved up to the terrace and half of our guests were seated outside while our families were in the main living room and dining room. The flow was perfect! To say all of my guests were blown away by the beauty of the property would be an understatement.”

What was your favorite moment of the day?

“My favorite moment of the day was immediately following the ceremony when Rob and I were walking hand in hand down the rose petal covered path from the flower garden to the Italian garden. It just kind of sunk in that we had just gotten married(!), the stress of planning was over, and now we could enjoy ourselves and celebrate with the ones we love.”

Did anything surprise you on your big day?

“The only thing that surprised me was how smooth everything ran! I was expecting to be stressed and a bit of a bridezilla but luckily our caterer; Marketplace, florist; Trilium and everyone at the Mount, especially Ross & Grace, helped us pull things off seamlessly!”

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding in the Berkshires?

“The best thing about having your wedding in the Berkshires is that you have so much at your disposal – so my only advice would be to just take advantage of that! The scenery is already perfect- historic and beautiful-so you don’t need to go overboard bringing in flowers, etc.”

I loved the way Megan and Rob chose to compliment the natural beauty of The Mount’s gardens and the Berkshire foliage with simple and sweet details. The whole day radiated classic romance. Thanks for sharing it with us, Megan and Rob! For more info on getting married at The Mount contact me at
