Ashley recently graced the cover of Bride & Groom Magazine:
A Vintage Berkshire Wedding at Race Brook Lodge in Western Massachusetts
What a freaking amazing day! It started out nice, and then it snowed. A LOT.
This is from the bride:
Winthrop and I really wanted something special and out of the ordinary for our wedding day. We are such individual people, yet we wanted our union to be the perfect marriage of our personalities. We thought that Halloween would be the perfect time, so we picked a vintage theme so that the 150 guests could really have fun and dress up, but still keep it formal. We wanted to keep it as green as we could, so we stuck with mostly local vendors. We chose one of our favorite lodges and rented the place for the weekend, so that us and our guests could have one place to just relax and have fun. Friday night, we had small eats and a pumpkin carving party, with pumpkins grown by our neighbors.
We couldn’t have planned a more perfect day to get married. Life is beautifully unpredictable, so we were blessed by getting married in Narnia. We got 2 feet of snow on our day, which provided the perfect backdrop for vows and photos.
For the party, we had a photo-booth downstairs set up by Eric, complete with props, which provided classic shots that we will look back on and laugh at forever. Upstairs, everyone danced their butts off to the sounds of classic and new by our favorite dj. My husband is an Arborist and I, an avid gardener, so our guest book was a hand drawn tree where people could “leaf” their fingerprints. We now have a personalized piece of art on our wall to remind us of our supportive and loving friends and family. Dinner was an amazing display of local, in season vegetables and beef roasted on an open fire. There were boxes and vases of antique colored flowers everywhere and trees hanging from the poles. Guests sipped on locally made alcohol while watching the talented caterers serve food from their steaming cauldrons. Dinner and toasts finished around a bubbling chocolate fountain while sampling miniature cupcakes.
We really had an all-star cast to make this night happen. Everyone was amazing and so professional. We really couldn’t have asked for a better night. All the elements that we chose really painted the perfect wedding for us. We feel truly blessed to be able to have shared this night with everyone.
Throughout the storm, the electricity stayed on, as if on queue, until the last song finished. We finished the night speak-easy style by candle light with a friend playing quietly on the piano.
The snow started to fall as soon as I arrived
Ashley realizing how awesome the snow is!
A pink wedding dress!
Fall themed wedding, with custom made train ticket invites.
The bride was NOT going to let the snow get in the way of an epic wedding.
This is where the ceremony WAS supposed to happen… just a little change of plans!
The beautiful back yard at Race Brook Lodge, covered in what would become over two feet of snow
They attached a tent to the barn for dinner. What nobody was expecting was the heavy snow. All of us, the guests, the staff, the groom… we all had to help push snow off the tent because it was getting too heavy!
Ashley ROCKED the birdcage veil!
The snow got so deep, they had to put the bride on the back of this tractor to get her from her room to the barn!
The barn was a little crowded for the ceremony, but it really made it that much more intimate!
I had to literally chase Ashley & Winthrop outside. They RAN! I couldn’t believe it, and the photos are epic!
Her friends are CRAZY! They al wanted to get a photo in the snow. Look, BARE FEET!!!
Winthrop owns a tree removal company. They had this amazing “guest book” hand drawn tree where their guests could “leaf” their fingerprints.
Open fire cooking under a tent in the snow? OK!
And a photo studio set up downstairs by me. And then the power went out because of the snow! What an amazing day.
